The Greene Tea Party is a group of local citizens united by our shared concern over excessive spending by our government and the deterioration of our civil society. Caught up in the demands of everyday life, people often feel disconnected from their elected representatives and watch in helpless frustration as our government continues to breach the firewalls of the Constitutions of the United States of America and the sovereign State of North Carolina. We will demand that our government return to the principles according to the ideals of our Constitutions and our Creator. Our motivation is inspired by the words of Greene County namesake and American Revolution hero Major General Nathanael Greene: “We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again.”
Constitutionally Limited Government: We, the members of the Greene County Tea Party, are inspired by our founding documents and regard the Constitution of the United States to be the supreme law of the land. We believe in the original intent of the government our founders set forth, and therefore, stand in support of that intent. Like the founders, we support states’ rights for those powers not expressly stated in the US Constitution. As the government is of the people, by the people and for the people, in all others matters we support the personal liberty of the individual, within the rule of law. “America must raise an empire of permanent duration, supported upon the grand pillars of Truth, Freedom, and Religion, encouraged by the smiles of Justice and defended by her own patriotic sons.” - Nathanael Greene
Fiscal Responsibility: A constitutionally limited government is required to protect the blessings of liberty by being fiscally responsible or it must subject its citizenry to high levels of taxation. Runaway deficit spending compels us to action as the increasing federal, state and local debt is a grave threat to our sovereignty along with the personal and economic liberty of future generations. “This is backdoor politics at its worst, for the worst possible reasons.” - Nathanael Greene
Free Markets: A free market society enables its citizens the choice of products, services and livelihood without government interference or monopoly. Our free market economy is the basis for our economic growth and is unique to our success as a country and as individuals for over two centuries.
